Talent is what you have. A dream is where you start. Action is how you get there.

Champion Recruiting Guide

Start with your 1st degree connections (family + friends)

  • You are most likely here because you know someone involved in TalentDreams, and when they shared what we’re doing, and asked you to get involved… you were willing to.
    •  Because of your personal relationship with that person.
  • This is the only reason someone will get involved today (that will change soon).
    • Because they have a personal connection to you.
  • Unless you’re an influencer w/ 1M+ followers, doing a general post on social media most likely won’t work.
    • Our founders have tried this, as have board members and others, and it has never worked.
      • Not once.
    • However, posting on LinkedIn is the exception to this.
      • PLEASE post on LinkedIn using the templates below or whatever you prefer
  • Start with small wins.
    • The person MOST likely to join.
    • Get used to having the conversation.
    • Success breeds more success.

Make it Personal

  • John/Wendy, with your experience _______________, you would make an amazing Champion for TalentDreams!
    • Explain what TD is if they don’t already know.
    • Explain how light of a lift it is and how little time it will require…
  • Be direct and clear in the ask
    • I totally understand if now isn’t a good time for any reason…
    • That said, if you’re willing to consider joining, it would mean a lot to me!

Brief Background of TalentDreams

Background: TalentDreams is a micro-mentoring platform. Micro-mentoring is a short-term, focused mentoring relationship. The lift is super low, and the time involved is minimal.

General Overview: TalentDreams is a free online micro-mentoring platform connecting youth (ages 14–22) with adults for a high-impact 30-minute session. By focusing on a youth’s specific area of interest, we make it easy for adults to give back and for young people to gain insight without a long-term commitment.

Champion Overview: Mentoring doesn’t have to be a big lift or major time commitment. TalentDreams connects you with motivated young people (14–22) for a one-time, 30-minute virtual session. Share your expertise or experience in a specific field and help shape a future career or life path. We’re making it easy for adults to give back and for young people to gain insight without a long-term commitment by focusing on a youth’s specific area of interest—all in less time than it takes to eat lunch.

What’s in it for a Dreamer: Get the inside scoop with TalentDreams, whether that’s insight into your dream career, the local vibe of a new city you’re moving to, or the path someone took to achieve their success. We connect you with someone who’s already done it, for a free, one-on-one conversation around whatever you’re curious to learn more about. No long-term strings attached—just a helping hand to help you reach your goals.

The Champion Ask: How much time will this require? Becoming a Champion for TalentDreams will involve ~4 hours over the next 12-months. That’s 20 minutes a month!

Ongoing: Being a Champion, ongoing involvement will involve ~2 hours a year. That’s 10 minutes a month!

CTA (call to action): You would make an amazing Champion. It takes 30 seconds to start the process. I’ll text you the link: https://www.talentdreams.org/become-a-mentor-application-form/

Objections: I don’t have time…I know, most people hear “mentoring,” and it sounds like a lot. We use a new approach called micro-mentoring. Harvard Business Review has called it the new standard for mentoring. And the time commitment is ~2 hours a year. How doable is that for you?

Example Talk Track

John, I’m a mentor for a nonprofit called TalentDreams. They’ve built a free online micro-mentoring platform connecting youth (ages 14–22) with adults for a high-impact 30-minute session. By focusing on a youth’s specific area of interest, we make it easy for adults to give back and for young people to gain insight without a long-term commitment.

It’s based on the concept of micro-mentoring, and we call our mentors “Champions”. It’s just one 30-minute conversation, so the lift is super low, and the time involved is minimal. The time commitment for Champions is less than 4 hours over the next year and 2 hours a year after that.

We’re making a big push to recruit more mentors, and you would make an amazing Champion, given your career as a contractor and your experience building homes. Not to mention how long you’ve lived in the area and how well you know the Central Coast.

I’d LOVE to have you part of the program. If you’re at all interested, it takes 30 seconds to start the application process. Can I send you a link to learn more about what we’re doing?

Engaging Question

Would you be open to committing 2 hours a year, knowing it could potentially help a youth between 14-22 years of age?

John, I hope you’re doing well! I just became a mentor for an amazing program. I thought you might be interested to learn more about it. It’s called TalentDreams, and it’s an online platform that lets youth enter criteria for something they’re interested in, and the technology matches them with a mentor (they call them “Champions”, someone like you and me!) who has the knowledge or experience they’d like to learn about.

The concept is really cool; it’s called micro-mentoring. It’s just one 30-minute conversation. So the lift is super low, and the time involved is minimal.

You would make an awesome Champion, and I know they’d love to have you involved.

Option 1: Professional & Impactful (Best for broad reach)

Headline: Can you spare 30 minutes to change a young person’s trajectory?

I’m proud to be a board member and founding member of TalentDreams, a nonprofit dedicated to helping local youth and young adults discover their potential and pursue their dreams.

We are currently looking for professionals to join our team of mentors. We specialize in micro-mentoring, which means:

Low commitment: Just one 30-minute Zoom session.

High flexibility: You decide your frequency (from once a month to once a year).

Direct impact: Share your experience 1:1 with a member eager to learn.

If you’ve ever wished you had a mentor when you were starting out, this is your chance to be that person for someone else.

Join our mentor team here: https://www.talentdreams.org/become-a-champion/

Option 2: Short, Punchy & Action-Oriented (Best for high engagement)

I’m looking for amazing professionals to join me at @TalentDreams! 🌟

As a board member and founding mentor, our goal is to bridge the gap between young talent and experienced mentors. We’ve built a micro-mentoring platform designed for busy schedules.

The Ask: One 30-minute Zoom call.

The Frequency: As often or as little as you like.

The Goal: To inspire, enrich, and mentor young people as they chase their dreams.

The lift is low, but the impact is life-changing.

Option 3: Personal & Mission-Driven (The “Founder’s Story” approach)

Helping to build @TalentDreams has been a passion project of mine because I believe every young person deserves a roadmap to their future.

Our mission is simple: To help the next generation discover, embrace, and express their talent. But we can’t do it without you.

We’re building a community of mentors who are willing to show up for a single, 30-minute “micro-mentoring” session. Whether you have time once a month or once a year, your story could be the spark a young adult needs to take the next step in their career.
