What areas does TalentDreams serve?

Our community focus is primarily the Central Coast and Bay Area of California today. However, we will be expanding to new communities in the future. We have Champions across the United States and can support a Dreamer anywhere in the world. As long as the time zones work to meet with a Champion!

What is a Dreamer?

A Dreamer is what we call our members ages 15-22. During this time, major life decisions are made, often with the least amount of information when compared to any other time in life. What might seem like a small difference in a decision made at this time, can have a massive impact many years into the future. And sometimes these decisions can have a significant impact even in the near-term. At TalentDreams, we simply want every Dreamer to have as many resources as possible.

What is a Champion?

A Champion is what we call our mentors. There is a perception that being a mentor means you have to meet with a mentee consistently and in an ongoing fashion. While this can often be ideal and does certainly constitute a robust mentor relationship, you can also have a MentorMoment™ within a single passing conversation. In fact, you can have mentors you read about in books or watch in movies, and even people throughout history can serve as mentors. Mentorship can come in a single moment. It’s all about what you take away in that moment.

Are your Champions trustworthy?

Yes, all of our mentors go through a comprehensive 10-step process to be approved to be a Champion, including a background check and our New Champion Training program. You can meet with as many as you like and they’re dedicated to supporting you!

Do your Champions have to do a background check?

Yes, we have a comprehensive vetting process every Champion goes through before they become approved and active in the program. This includes a background check.

Is there a code of conduct?

Yes, both our Dreamers and Champions have a code of conduct they agree to.

Why is this free?

At TalentDreams we don’t want there to be a financial barrier to serving our Dreamers. We know everyone, and especially young people, benefit when they have resources available to help guide them. Our amazing Supporters, Champions, and donors create this opportunity through their generous donations.

What is “The Impact Network™” and what does it mean?

We aspire to be “The Impact Network™”. The premise of TalentDreams is simple: a single conversation can change a life. Not every conversation will. But any one of them can. And we’ll never know until the conversation takes place. All we want to do is foster opportunities for those conversations to take place. The whole idea of TalentDreams, is to dramatically increase the number of those conversations. The more conversations, the more impact.

We create space for life-changing conversations to take place. At scale. A single point of input at the right time can change lives, for the better.

Our goal is to help young people discover their inner leader, empowering them to make informed choices that help direct their lives. Help them understand they have ownership of their life. When this happens, they take control and realize it’s up to them. No one else is going to do

What is a MentorMoment™?

This is what we call it when a Dreamer meets with a Champion. This is done using Zoom, so you can do it anywhere, anytime, even from the comfort of your own home!

As someone who has never been a Champion before, what should I expect?

So many things. First and foremost, expect to learn. About yourself, the program, the dreamers you interact with, and what it’s like to get out of your comfort zone. Feedback from many of our Champions is that they feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment. And gratitude. And that it’s challenging. It pushes them to be better.

Mentoring is very different from parenting. It’s closer to coaching or teaching, but far less instructing and much more listening and asking questions. You won’t be telling anyone what to do. Rather, you’ll ask them “why” or what they think, and sometimes you’ll share your own experience.

In order to be a Champion, do I need to have prior experience as a mentor?

No, absolutely not! You simply need the willingness to make yourself available to a youth or young adult who is interested in meeting with you. We have built out a comprehensive training program in partnership with Mentor California, the preeminent agency dedicated to evangelizing the power of mentorship. The training is only a couple hours and you’ll attend a New Champion Orientation. After this, you’ll be equipped with everything you need to make an impact!

Why should I become a Champion?

If you are open to sharing your life experience and a desire to contribute to young people, you will find being a Champion is not only a connecting experience, but a fulfilling one as well.

What can I expect as a Champion?

You can expect to meet with a Dreamer one time, or multiple times to share information with them around whatever they’re interested in learning more about.

Would I be a good Champion?

If you care about young people, are interested in genuine listening, and are open to sharing your life experiences — then yes! TalentDreams Champions come from all backgrounds and are united by their deep desire to help others.

We’ll also equip you with training and resources to develop your mentoring toolbox.

Do I have to pay to be a Champion?

No, there is a free Champion Plan. There are also donation-based plans that are critical in helping to fund basic program operations for TalentDreams. We don’t ever want money to be a blocker for anyone who wants to participate in the program. That’s why we provide TalentDreams free to any and all youth and young adults between 15-22 who would like to join.

That said, we literally could not operate without our Champions who donate monthly or annually. These donations are absolutely vital to our ongoing ability to operate.

Do we meet in person?

What is the time commitment?

What if I become a Champion and a Dreamer doesn’t request to meet with me?

It may take some time for a Dreamer with criteria for what they’re looking for that matches with your background and experience. Or, it may be that you get a request right away. Either way, the important thing is that you’re available for when that match comes along.
